Today, I am going to recommend another famous dish of Vietnam, which has a beautiful name, “Banh xeo” in Vietnamese or foreign visitors can call it as Sizzling Cake.
“Banh Xeo” is a dish coming from Vietnam. No need to go anywhere to enjoy this dish, you can make it at home whenever you wanna savour. I am sure that you will not miss it, especially if you are a gourmet. Its ingredients include:
Rice flour (or wheat flour). For some people, they like mixing rice flour with wheat flour.
Water (or beer).
Turmeric powder.
Meat (usually pork), seafood (shrimps as usual), beansprouts, pachyrrhizus and green onion.
Fish sauce with crushed garlic, MSC, chilli, white sugar and lime juice.
The receipt is used to make “Banh Xeo” is very simple. All you need to do is following these steps below:
Pour water into rice flour, then moulding the rice flour.
Boil meat in about half an hour. After that, you put it out, mincing meat but not with seafood. You have to add spices into meat and seafood: salt, sugar, a little pepper and mixing well. Remember if you use shrimps as your ingredient, you have to peel or devein it, or at leats trim off the tips and the legs.
Roast the minced meat and fry the seafood until it has the golden colour.
Fry the batter which is made of rice flour. You need to tilt it evenly by a ladle. Then cover the surface with your filling, include beansprouts and shaved pachyrrhizus too. Fry in about 5 minutes.Drizzle a little oil around the edges in order to make “Banh xeo” taste crispy. When the crepe begins to curl up on the edges and turns into golden brown colour, you must fold the crepe in half.
Make dipping sauce by pouring fish sauce in a bowl of water with crushed garlic, chilli, white suger, MSG and a little lime juice.
Finally, serving “Banh Xeo” into dish and enjoying with herbs and vegetables.
“Banh Xeo” is a dish which tatses best in every season, especially when the winter is coming and the weather become colder. In the Southern part of Vietnam, “Banh Xeo” always contains coconut milk in order to increase the greasiness of this food. But in most of the Northern part, a lot of people choose to skip this ingredient because their tatse is not as sweet as the Southern part.
